World War II has just begun and four children, Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy Pevensie are evacuated from London in 1940 to escape The Blitz. They are sent to live with Professor Kirke, who lives in the countryside in a mansion with his housekeeper Mrs. Macready.
One rainy day the children decide to explore the house and end up playing a game of hide and go seek. During the game Lucy Pevensie, the youngest of the four discovers a wardrobe that is the entrance into a secret world covered in snow. Not far into her exploration of this hidden world, she meets a faun named Tumnus who invites her home for tea and tells her that the land is called Narnia and it is ruled by an evil White Witch who ensures that is always winter and never Christmas.
Lucy returns through the wardrobe after hours of spending time in Narnia and realizes that no time has passed in her world. She tells her siblings of her discovery, but they immediately assume she is telling stories of a make believe place she invented to keep herself entertained. A few days later, Edmund follows Lucy through the wardrobe and is separated from her for a short time. During that time, he comes across the White Witch and she manages to coerce him into bringing his other siblings to meet her, under the guise of having interest in getting to know them, but her true intention is to kill them so that she can forever rule Narnia.
Several weeks pass by, and while the four children are trying to avoid Kirke's housekeeper, they enter the wardrobe to hide -- but find themselves in the world that Lucy described to them. They soon find themselves on a mission to save their brother from the White Witch, and realize that their discovery of the world in the wardrobe may not be a coincidence after all.
